Choosing the right photographer for you and your family is essential.

Here’s a guide to assist you in this important decision.

  • Style - When searching for your ideal newborn photographer, it’s crucial to find someone whose style resonates with you. Take the time to explore their portfolio on their website and social media platforms. If their work captures your heart, that’s fantastic! If it doesn’t align with your vision, don’t hesitate to continue your search. A helpful tip: if you admire a photographer for reasons other than their style, proceed with caution. For instance, it’s unrealistic to expect a photographer known for moody portraits to achieve a light and airy aesthetic upon request.
  • Safety - This is paramount! It should never be overlooked. Every expert was once a beginner, but whether new or experienced, safety must always come first. I believe that newborn photographers should be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) to be prepared for emergencies. Completing this training enhances your awareness of potential risks. My background as a nurse provides me with additional insight. Additionally, it’s vital to understand safe posing for infants; as delicate beings, babies require careful handling. Please reach out if you have any inquiries regarding newborn safety—I can share my knowledge from various courses and years of experience.
  • Props & Posing - When reviewing newborn photography, consider whether you’re attracted to prop styling or table poses. Props can include items like baskets, bowls, or tiny beds. I love incorporating props and table poses in every session. The specifics regarding props will be discussed after booking, as I ask about your preferences in a newborn questionnaire. A fun fact for clients who book with me: I have a fantastic collection of props to choose from!
  • Colors - While this can relate closely to style, I wanted to highlight it separately. Color choices may seem straightforward, but they can be quite complex. The range of colors and patterns is vast, which means I continually expand my collection. Rest assured, as my client, I have a variety of options, including whites, creams, greens, reds, blues, and pinks. Clients often simply specify a main color, and I build the rest around that. Not only do I have an extensive selection of posing fabrics with coordinating wraps, but I also offer matching accessories such as headbands and bonnets, along with charming stuffed toys for little hands.
  • Final Products (Digital Files and Prints) - What do you envision doing with your session photographs? Is your nursery in need of a stunning canvas, or are you interested in an album to showcase the highlights of your newborn’s early days? It’s important to clarify what products are offered by your chosen photographer. With my services, you can select from a variety of offerings, including digital image files or a combination of both files and physical products.

There you have it—key factors to consider when searching for the perfect newborn photographer. Best of luck in your search, and congratulations on your new baby!

Warm regards, Michelle

Maternity Photo Shoot - Studio and outdoors!

Hey! What do you think about when you hear maternity session? Do you think about family? Do you think about mom and dad? Well, I think about all of that. Maternity photo shoots obviously include mom because she's the pregnant one, but we cannot forget dad and other children. This is a celebration of having a baby and capturing the beautiful thing a woman's body can do!

Did you know that I take photos in the studio and outdoors for maternity sessions? This mama was excited for both, even though the outdoor portion was really windy and cold. She is pregnant with her second baby and wanted to capture the beauty of being pregnant.

Plus, I have a large client closet with gowns, dresses, fabrics, body suits, and more for your maternity session. And I don't leave dad or the littles out because I have shirts for men and clothes for kids. Of course you are able to wear your own, but if you don't feel like shopping, this works out well. We go over this in your design appointment.

For having part of your session outdoors, I have a few locations that I like to use near the studio. But, we can plan accordingly and drive to other locations. It all depends on what you want your outdoor background / surrounding area to look like. We will also discuss this in your design appointment.

Although I said earlier that this outdoor session was cold and windy, I think a storm was rolling in, it was so good!! What an adorable family they are!!

Don't wait to book your session. I book up fast and don't want you to miss out on portraits at this beautiful time in your life.

Adorable newborn twins came to the studio! This family must be both thrilled and exhausted with twice the diaper changes and feedings. Plus, they have a toddler! Working with twins has always been so much fun and these girls were no exception. You would think it would be twice the work, making it twice as hard, but I think most of the time twins are just as easy as one baby. With these girls, one was so laid back while the other wanted to be awake so she didn't miss anything. I loved it and I hope to get more twins in soon!

Reminder to book your newborn session as soon as you're in your second trimester. Sometimes I can get you in later along, but I can't guarantee it. Even if you just want to chat about it, hit me up with the contact button.

Baby Maddix came to the studio for his newborn session! I was so excited to meet him!! I met his parents at the maternity session a few months before. We started with Maddix cuddling his mama in the lifestyle bed area for some of the cutest mommy and me photos. After cuddling mama, it was just Maddix for the rest of the session. His mama picked a few buckets, a blue flokati, and a little bed for prop posing. Since some babies don't like to be posed with their chin on their hands in a bucket, I try three times and move on if they're not having it. I tried a fourth time with him and I'm so happy that I did because those images are just the cutest! And the little bed...so cute!

When I found out that his parents loved sports, I ordered some felted props to use in his session. Aubrey's Felties did such a great job on a football and a hockey set. We also used the cute little deer from Dear my Luna. Thinking about it now, I should have slipped a can of Spam into one of the sets because his parents work for Hormel. haha.

I loved this session so much! So, all the mamas out there, this is your reminder. If you haven't booked your newborn session, do it now. These babies grow like weeds. They are only little for so long.
